The Porsche 906 or Carrera 6 was developed for endurance sports car racing, the 906 was a road-homologated race car that raced in the FIA Group 4 class against cars like the Ferrari Dino 206 P. They often won their class behind much larger prototypes such as the Ford GT40 Mk II. and Ferrari 330 P3/4.
Based on the same principles as the 904, the 906 used a boxed steel chassis with a fiberglass body that added rigidity to the design. This particular monocoque construction was very light, resulting in a car that typically weighed 1,300 lbs (580 kg).
The model we’re offering for sale is chassis 017, which won the 24h of Daytona in the USA, finishing first in the P2 class and 6th overall, driven by Hans Hermann Herbert Linge.
